For many people, John F. Kennedy changed their idea of what a president could be. If not for his assassination, it’s very likely the world we live in today would be a completely different place.

1. John F. Kennedy Lived with Chronic Pain his entire life!
JFK underwent 4 back operations, including a discectomy, an instrumentation and fusion, along with 2 minor surgeries. Even after all of that, he dealt with chronic back pain every day of his life.
2. Dean Martin did not attend JFK’s inauguration!
Dean Martin refused to go because Sammy Davis, Jr wasn’t allowed to attend due to being black.
3. John F. Kennedy told his mother not to contact world leaders without asking him!
This was necessary after she asked Nikita Khrushchev to send her his autograph.
4. John f. Kennedy’s bad back could’ve gotten him killed!
JFK was wearing a rigid back brace due to his poor health and terrible back during the motorcade in Dallas. This left him sitting upright in the limo after being initially shot by Oswald. Giving Lee Harvey Oswald a clear second shot.
5. John F. Kennedy was kept in the dark about Nukes in Turkey!
JFK was unaware the U.S. had placed nuclear weapons in Turkey during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was quoted as saying putting them there would be “Goddamned Dangerous” during a situation room meeting. He was then informed the U.S. installed Jupiter IRBM’s in Turkey in 1961, which infuriated Kennedy.
6. John F. Kennedy’s Father, Joseph P. Kennedy resorted to Political Trickery in his 1946 campaign for congress!
In Joseph Kennedy’s 1946 congressional race, his campaign hired a janitor named Joe Russo to run against him and Boston City Councillor Joe Russo to confuse voters and split the “Russo” vote, which it did.
7. Kennedy wasn’t Lee Harvey Oswald’s first attempt at an assassination!
Two weeks after purchasing a mail-order rifle, Lee Harvey Oswald used it in a failed assassination attempt on anti-communist extremist General Edwin Walker at his home. He failed when his bullet struck a window frame, but escaped undetected. 7 months later, he used to same rifle to assassinate JFK.
8. While in the Navy, John F. Kennedy was saved by a coconut!
During WW2, John F. Kennedy found himself stranded on a deserted island. He was eventually rescued with the help of a coconut he carved a distress message into. The coconut (pictured below) would later be displayed in the Oval Office.
9. JFK’s Eternal Flame wasn’t so Eternal!
In 1963, a group of Catholic schoolchildren visiting the JFK eternal flame sprinkled it with holy water, accidentally extinguishing it.
10. John F. Kennedy could’ve been assassinated before becoming president!
A retired postal worker named Richard Pavlick slipped past Secret Service agents on a mission to assassinate president-elect John F. Kennedy in 1960. Luckily, Pavlick decided not to go through with the assassination because he didn’t want to hurt Kennedy’s wife and children.
Bonus Fact: John F. Kennedy was a Naughty Boy!
While President, JFK had an affair with a 19 year old White House intern. There was even an instance where he dared her to perform oral sex on his special assistant, Dave Powers. To which she obliged!
