Doug Jensen convicted on Seven Counts!

Doug Jensen, who was one of the first Trump supporters to enter the Capitol on January 6th, 2021 went on trial this week and was found guilty on seven counts, including felony charges of civil disorder, and assaulting, resisting or impeding officers. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 16

Doug Jensen’s wife, April, cried as the verdicts were read in the courtroom. Jensen has been held in pretrial custody since last year. He was initially released in a high-intensity pretrial program, but after violating the conditions of his release a judge ordered Jensen detained again.

How did Doug Jensen violate the conditions of his release?

Doug Jenson live-streamed an event hosted by MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, who has promoted conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.

On Jan. 6, Jensen filmed videos from the base of the Capitol building, where he proclaimed — inaccurately, but with tremendous confidence — that he was at the White House. “Storm the White House! That’s what we do!” he said in one video.

Doug Jensen was among the first rioters to enter into what he evidently believed was the White House, and chased Officer Goodman up the stairs off the chamber of the Senate (which, just for clarity’s sake, is part of the legislative branch).

“Storm the White House! That’s what we do!” said Douglas Jensen as he prepared to storm the U.S. Capitol.

Here’s the moment when protesters initially got into the building from the first floor and made their way outside Senate chamber. Doug Jensen is the man in front pressuring Officer Goodman to retreat back up the stairs.

Prosecutors argued that Jensen “was the rioter who would not back down” in his determination to the prevent the peaceful transfer of power.

“Every barrier he encountered that day, he was ready to topple,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Hava Arin Levenson Mirell said. He scaled a 20-foot wall to reach the Capitol, inhaled clouds of pepper spray “like it was oxygen,” and passed through police lines.

Goodman, the USCP officer who testified at Jensen’s trial, had “no back-up” when he faced off with rioters, Mirell said. And the mob, “led by the defendant,” didn’t withdraw despite being asked to by authorities.“That was not a game of follow the leader,” Mirell said. Jensen was “weaponizing that mob.”
