Last week we did a weird traffic laws in the United States. Today we add to the weird laws with 8 weird laws about sex. All of these are actual laws regarding sexuality and marriage that are on the record in the states below. No urban legends here, these are all real.

In the state of South Carolina…

You cannot promise to marry someone and back out!

In the state of South Carolina you can be placed in prison for up to a year for not following through with the wedding. The law actually states

“seduction under promise of marriage”

Is illegal punishable by a fine or imprisonment of up to one year.


In the state of North Carolina…

You cannot live together unless you’re married

In North Carolina as well as 4 other states it’s illegal for 2 people of the opposite sex to live under the same roof unless they are married. The law states.

“If any man and woman, not being married to each other, shall lewdly and lasciviously associate, bed and cohabit together, they shall be guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor.”


In the state of New Jersey…

You cannot get to know someone you don’t already know!

In the state of Idaho

You cannot sleep with another persons spouse.

If you’re in Idaho just leave him/her alone if they’re married. It’s not worth it in any state but definitely not Idaho because they have a law against it.

Sexual acts are illegal in Idaho if at least one of the people involved is already married. Punishable by fines of $1000 or 3 years in prison.


In the state of Mississippi…

You cannot teach others about polygamy.

You can’t even talk about polygamy in Mississippi. Unless you want to sit in a prison cell. The law states it is illegal to..

“teach another the doctrines, principles, or tenets, or any of them, of polygamy.”

Punishable by a fine of $500 or 6 months in prison. Ouch!
